Links with our local church

North Stainley School is a Church School and has very close links with the village Church of St Mary the Virgin, North Stainley - which is conveniently situated right next door to school!

Our vicar and curate regularly lead Collective Worship, either in the church or in school.

Our school’s two Foundation Governors are Jane Mansell, a churchwarden at St Mary’s, and Rev Sian Lawton, the Curate.

The pupils also come into church for their own services and also to join in parish celebrations ...Our Welcome Service and Presentation of Children’s Bibles to new pupils in September, Harvest, Remembrance, Class One come and help set up the Christmas Crib, Easter service and our Leavers’ service in July.

Many pupils attend the half termly afterschool JAM club, which is run by members of the Anglican and Methodist Churches in North Stainley and West Tanfield. Adults and children explore Biblical themes together through storytelling, activities, games, crafts and worship. (see also under Extended Schools)

We greatly value the support given to us by our Diocesan Schools’ Advisor, including training for staff and governors.

The church regularly prays for the school.
Members of the church attend the school's community lunches and support the school in other ways.

Our Christian vision of having our roots and foundation in love comes from St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. St Paul says:

“I pray that Christ will make his home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundation in love,   so that you … may come to know his love — although it can never be fully known — and so be completely filled with the very nature of God."
(Ephesians 3: 17-19)

Love is the rich soil in which all our Christian values take root.

Friendship      Respect     Resilience    Empathy    Independence    Aspiration

Living out these values will enable us all to grow, blossom and flourish and become caring, confident, successful and responsible citizens of our amazing world.
