Intent Statement for DT
 
The subject leader for Design & Technology (DT) is Ms Maggie Wilson.
 
They can be contacted by emailing admin@northstainley.n-yorks.sch.uk using the subject title FAO of Ms Maggie Wilson.

With oversight and support from our Senior Leadership team subject leaders oversee and monitor the intent, implementation and impact of their subject.

Intent

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject.  Our DT curriculum is informed by the National Curriculum 2014.  Design and Technology encourages children to learn, think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.  We encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and other’s needs, wants and values.  We aim, wherever possible, to link work to other disciplines such as maths, science, engineering, computing and art.  The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design and technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encourages to become innovators and risk- takers. 

DT Rationale 
 
Although Design and Technology is often linked with Art and Design, we have made a clear choice to link it with science projects. As part of our understanding in Science we want children to design and innovate in order to create a practical skill set which is useful in the wider world.
