School Dinner

Children can enjoy a freshly prepared meal on school premises each day. We have a three-week rolling menu which changes twice a year, at Easter and October half term. You can make choices on which meal your child would like via a paper copy sent home and returned to school with your choices. Once selected, these meal choices cannot be changed unless agreed with the kitchen staff/office. Please contact the school office if you have any problems or queries.

School meals are free for reception children to year 2 (known as ‘universal free school meal’) and a drink of water is also provided. Alternatively, the children can bring a packed lunch from home - more information below.

Our school meals follow a healthy-eating policy

Our meals are produced freshly every day in a school kitchen from only:

  • fresh meat and poultry sourced from the region;

  • fruit and vegetables sourced regionally where possible using local suppliers;

  • products free from additives associated with health problems in young children;

  • fats free from hydrogenated oils;

  • with  menus that are nutritionally balanced.

Our cooked meals are made in our kitchen in the Village Hall, they provide a healthy balanced meal for the children.

Packed Lunches

Some families prefer their child to have a packed lunch so we try to help you plan a fantastic lunch box which your child will enjoy and is healthy - fizzy drinks, sweets and chocolate bars are not allowed.  Please be aware that our school is a 'nut free' school and please refrain from bringing any products containing nuts onto the premises.  Thank you for your support with this.

Free School Meals

Free school meals are available to children whose parents are in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods (£616.67 per month);

  • Income Support;

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance;

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance;

  • Support under part six of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;

  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit;

  • Child Tax Credit, provided you are also not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual household gross income that does not exceed £16,190 (as assessed by HMRC); or

  • Working Tax Credit run-on, paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.

To apply for free school meals please go https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/free-school-meals

 Applications are usually processed within five working days. You will be notified in writing, either by post or email, if your child is entitled and we will also let the school know. You should continue to pay until confirmation comes through. Schools may be able to arrange reimbursement of payment made while your entitlement is being confirmed. Free school meals claims cannot be backdated. They are awarded from the date we receive the application, once eligibility is confirmed. This is because there is a legal requirement for a request to be made, before a free school meal can be provided. If you are not entitled to free school meals, you will be notified in writing.

Snacks & Water

We promote healthy eating and living, achieving a Healthy Schools Award. Our children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day andcan bring their own bottle to refil at school.  KS1 children receive a free piece of fruit everyday as part of the Government Healthy eating initiative. KS2 are encouraged to bring healthy snacks to school for breaktime.
