Music

The subject leader for Music is Mrs Anna Longstaff. They can be contacted by emailing n-admin@gfnsschools.co.uk

“Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.” National Curriculum 2014

Our Intent

• To develop each child’s musical potential by presenting music as an enjoyable and positive experience.

• To provide opportunities which encourage creativity and self-expression whilst also developing confidence through composing and performing.

• To enable pupils to extend their knowledge as well as their appreciation of a wide range of musical styles and cultures.

Implementation

Music is taught throughout the school as a discrete subject making cross-curricular links where appropriate.

Singing is an integral part of every music lesson and children get the opportunity to experience all aspects of music in practical ways including through live performances.

Extra-curricular music lessons and clubs are available from our peripatetic instrumental teachers and we celebrate the children’s achievements by encouraging pupils to perform in Collective Worship.

All children have the opportunity to take part in the end of year concert celebrating individual success and class ensembles.
