Home learning 8th January 2025
Good morning,
Happy New Year!
As we are not in school today, here are some tasks for you to complete at home. The tasks are optional so there is no pressure to do any or all of them.
Maths- Watch this video and complete the following sheet multiplication.
Year 3: https://vimeo.com/732395710
Year 4: https://vimeo.com/732469922
You could login to TTRockstars and practice your times tables too.
English-
Writing – Our first writing unit this term is to create a persuasive leaflet for a holiday. Can you find any examples of this at home? What is the purpose of a holiday brochure? Look carefully can you work what the features of this text are?
Reading- Please complete 30 minutes of reading, if you have read over the Christmas holidays you can quiz here https://login.renaissance.com/12d2c7ac-6397-470e-9a97-fec1b5e13f67?state=140a99b2-5f2f-4003-9dc3-da99222b53d7
In Geography we are going to be exploring the continents of the world. Can you remember the names of the continents and oceans? See if you can find out some interesting facts about them.
Hopefully I will see you tomorrow!

Reading
There is an expectation at Fountains that the children read regularly at home and in school. The children will bring home their reading book and record everyday, they must bring the book back to school the following day. To try and encourage reading at home we are asking you to sign your child’s reading record and they will get a dojo for each time they read at home. As their confidence grows they may read to themselves and not to you but if you could still sign their reading record to say when they have read this would be appreciated.
Spellings
The children will be given a list of spellings to learn each week. This will consist of words which follow a spelling rule . To practise these the children need to fill in a practice sheet and write a sentence for each word to show they understand the meaning. The practice sheet should be filled in 5 times over the 7 days, it is very important to do this on 5 separate occasions rather than just filling all 5 columns at once.
Maths
In Class Two, it is a priority for children to become fluent in the times tables facts to 12x12. This is partly because in the summer of Year Four the children sit a Multiplication Assessment, but largely because this knowledge underpins many aspects of mathematical work. To support them with this learning, the maths homework in Class 2 will be times tables based. Each week on a Tuesday we will do a quick multiplication test, lasting 72 seconds where the children get 12 jumbled multiplication questions on the times table they have been practising. Once they get 12 out of 12 for 2 consecutive weeks they then move onto the next times table.
To aid them with this we will use 2 methods:
● Multiples question cards
● TTRockstars
From Tuesday to Tuesday they need to complete 15 sessions, 1 session is 1 minute. They can do these in 1 go or ideally spread out over the week. Anyone who completes significantly more than 15 will be rewarded with dojo points. If you have any problems with this or the website please speak to Miss Wray or Mrs Lewis.
If you have any questions please come and ask or email at f-admin@gfnsschools.co.uk
