Class One Learning WC/ 15th April
Another busy week in Class One got off to a wobbly start... a wibbly wobbly start... involving JELLY in EYFS! The children were learning the nursery rhyme 'jelly on a plate', and fully emerged in a wibbly wobbly experience! The children were involved in the process of making the jelly and then learning that it would set when left in the fridge. After removing it and discussing the changes, the children then explored the textures as they did cutting, mushing, scooping, poking and squashing the jelly out of different moulds! No jelly experience would be complete with out a taste test though- 5 star ratings all round!
Mrs. Watkinson came in again on Wednesday and the children explored their feelings through different materials, sounds and music genres! The children thoroughly engaged in the lesson and were excited to find drums in the music box at the end of the session!
Year One and Two have been really focusing on their comprehension skills in guided reading. We have discussed what fluency means -to paint the picture in our head as a result of reading at a comfortable pace without hesitation, which could impact on the meaning or our understanding- and have been practising reading with accuracy. We have also been working on answering questions taking evidence from the text and answering in full sentences.
Reading Fluency Explained:
Year One and Two are also learning about Kings and Queens in History, and what a Monarchy is. While they were learning all about what a monarch is and what their roles are, EYFS learned about the royal family and made their very own crowns! We discussed how a crown shows power and leadership- the children can't wait to do some role play next week- they were dissapointed PVA glue doesn't dry quicker!
We have also been continuing our work on the books we have in Class One and we picked out our favourties to write about. We wrote why we love this book and why we would reccomend it to a friend! You might spot us all up on display in class!
Have a lovely, relaxed weekend, Miss. Gregory x
