Class One Learning WC/ 14th October

Art Week

We have had a great week in Class One exploring paint!

As it is Black History Month, we learnt all about the Windrush Generation and the impacts this had on Britain. From this we explored the artist Hurvin Anderson, whom is a child from a family who boarded the HMT Empire Windrush, and bases his wonderful artwork on memories from his family whom came to Britain from Jamaica.

We started the week by reading "Windrush Child" exploring feelings and emotions linked with the journey and the unknown as they travelled from the Carribbean to England. We then learnt all about what the Windrush Generation was and how this impacted both Britain and the people who travelled for 30 days on the ship to get here, and the experiences they went through after arriving. From this, we researched Hurvin Anderson and analysed his works of art, moving on to create our own pieces. We explored different paints and used watercolours techniques to create various pieces of work! There was lots of colour mixing, techniques practising and expressing our own ideas of home and comfort.

Look out next week for our final pieces, using Hurvin Anderson as our inspiration to paint what home means to us!
