Art Week

What an exciting week we have had doing all things printing!

The week started off looking at what Pop Art is, and who Andy Warhol was. From here we then did our own research about Andy Warhol to get a real understanding of how his life lead him to be a world famous Pop Art Artist using printing!

We then looking at some different kinds of prints and how they were printed- relief printing, screen printing and intaglio printing! This then lead into exploring and discussing lots of different prints created by Andy Warhol. We discussed key features of his work such as bright, unnatural colours, repeated images and use of famous celebrities and everyday objects to produce his art!

After this, we started practising our own printing skills! We looked first at relief printing and printing with lots of found items from around the classroom. Then we had a go at making prints using vegetables to get different shapes.

Then it was time to start thinking about our own printing and how we could make our own stamp to do some repeated printing with. We explored the use of corrugated card, pipe cleaners, wooden sticks and string and discussed what worked well and what didn't work so well.

Then it was time to plan! We planned our stamps we wanted to create and what materials were going to be used to create our final pieces; wrapping paper and a card! Once the designs were done, the making began and before long we were ready to print.

The children used all their new printing skills to successfully all produce a piece of festive wrapping paper and a wonderful Christmas card!

Have a look below to see us in action!
