Mrs Sanderson has really enjoyed getting to know the class over the past two weeks. It has been a pleasure learning all about their personalities, interests and strengths, and she has been so impressed by how welcoming, enthusiastic and hardworking they have been. The children have shown great curiosity in their learning and have approached each activity with positivity and confidence. It has been wonderful to see them support one another, share ideas and take pride in their work. Mrs Sanderson is very much looking forward to the weeks ahead with such a fantastic group.

Reception

The class explored foods from around the world, learning to recognise dishes from different countries and comparing them with familiar British foods. They discussed similarities, differences, and ingredients while developing their understanding of cultural diversity. They also looked at animals form different countries and sorting them into the climates they live in (hot/ cold). In maths, the children worked on making and matching the number five to numerals, using blocks and construction materials to build and represent the number in different ways. They also practised their new phonics sounds by matching each sound to pictures of items that begin with that sound, helping to strengthen their early reading skills.

KS1

KS1 have been exploring stories from different cultures, focusing on spelling, grammar and punctuation to identify adjectives and nouns and use them to create descriptive noun phrases. In maths, the children have been working on addition and subtraction within 100, building confidence with different strategies. In geography, they compared an African village with North Stainley, learning where North Stainley is located in the world and identifying its human and physical features. This work has inspired our upcoming walk around the village next week, which the children are very excited about. In PE, the class have been developing their gymnastics skills, practising balance, coordination and simple sequences with great enthusiasm.

Awards

We’ve had plenty of awards to celebrate over the past two weeks in Class Two. The Purple Ribbon, the Prize Box and even Belinda the Bear have all gone home with children who have shown excellent behaviour, kindness and effort. It’s been wonderful to see so many pupils recognised for their hard work and positive attitudes.
