It has been great to see all the children again after the Christmas holiday and hear about all the wonderful things you have been up to over the break.
The children have got straight back into the routine at school and have impressed us with some fantastic positive learning behaviors. I think we may have given out a record number of Dojos this week!

We enjoyed beginning our new class book, "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" and meeting the intriguing character of Edward, who is a very loved china rabbit. We will be using this text to inspire our own writing later in the term.
This week in our writing sessions the Children made a fabulous start at writing their own non-chronological report. We had prepared well before the holiday; researching and making notes on a chosen animal so they were fully prepared to begin putting this information together in their own reports. Look out for the finished pieces next week!
We have also made a great start exploring our Geography enquiry question: “How does our local landscape in North Yorkshire shape the way people live, work and travel?” Using paper maps and online maps we explored the region of Yorkshire and discovered that it comprises North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East ridings of Yorkshire. We loved exploring the maps and found that Ripon was due west of Flamborough head on the East Coast which then helped us locate North Stainley on our own blank UK maps. We will be continuing our map work next week as we explore the different land uses across our region.

If you have any photographs from trips and holidays in Yorkshire, please do send them in for the children to share! We will add them to our class display.
Please keep checking back in to this page. We will be adding more information about our curriculum and timetable next week.
